Acne, the plague of the young and old
Are you a teen who suffers from acne? Or are you an adult with new onset acne or acne that has continued to haunt you into adulthood?  Unfortunately, many will continue to have acne throughout their lives, particularly if not adequately and successfully treated.  In addition, due to the inflammation acne causes, abnormal pigmentation and scarring can readily occur.

Seeking early treatment is the key to success.  However, even if you are late to treatment, it still can be treated.  This may require more extensive treatments including treatment for excess pigment and acne scarring.

Not everyone responds to the same treatments for acne.  Seeing a medical professional that specializes in acne treatment will allow for the best outcomes. Initial steps to improving your acne may consist of medical-grade skin care, lifestyle and eating habit changes, and changes to other products including makeup.  Once these are addressed, you may and will likely benefit from prescription-strength topical and/or oral medications, customized chemical peels, microdermabrasion, light therapies, or other treatments.  Because this disorder takes time to treat, consistent treatment for 4-6 months is expected before significant improvement may be seen.  If unresponsive to therapy, another course can be considered.  Remember,  the skin took months to years to become this way, so a few months of treatment are easily required to see improvement.  It won’t be cured overnight.  Acne can require continued treatment over months to years.

Dedication is needed to improve your skin over time and routine medical evaluation to monitor your progress.  If all treatments fail or if you have nodular/cystic severe acne with scarring, you may need a stronger medication that requires monthly monitoring, labs, and complete dedication.  Isotretinoin, a strong oral medication, disrupts the way the sebaceous unit functions and is successful in treating many of the worst acne cases, however, some may need more than one course of treatment.   A course of treatment consists of an average of 20 weeks of therapy (some may be more or less).   Commonly, additional acne treatment regimens are required to keep outbreaks minimal.

After acne has been successfully cleared and treated, any scarring that has occurred can be minimized with additional treatments, such as Skinfinity RF, microneedling, chemical peels, and other treatments.  A series of treatments is needed for optimal improvement with maintenance treatments then required.    While not all scarring can be removed, it can be improved.  For this reason, it is extremely important to avoid delaying acne treatment and to seek out medical help quickly.

Your skin can benefit from adequate treatment of acne, including following along with your physician’s recommendations through a step-wise approach.  Let's show off your skin instead of keeping it hidden!

Our three-month acne program can help treat the initial stages of acne.  Customized chemical peels are utilized in a series with microdermabrasion, medical-grade skin care products, and prescription medications may be used with close observation of skin improvement.
