IPL Acne Clearance
Intense Pulsed Light or IPL therapy can be useful for treating acne for a safe, comfortable treatment. If you suffer from acne and would like to try light therapy to reduce inflammation quickly, kill the bacteria that causes acne, reduce redness, and get a smoother appearance, this may be the treatment you’ve been looking for. In a few short treatments, your skin could be clear and healthy.
Questions and Answers
I have acne. I’ve tried everything in the store to get rid of it. Can IPL Acne Clearance help and how does it work?
This treatment may help. First, let’s do a consultation to evaluate your skin. This treatment may benefit you to clear your skin as it reduces inflammation (acne is an inflammatory condition) and creates reactive oxygen to destroy the bacteria that causes acne.
How many IPL Acne Clearance treatments will I need?
Most who benefit from this treatment need at least 8-10 treatments in a series. These treatments must be done every 3-7 days to be effective.
Why do I need maintenance sessions?
Maintenance is required to continue to treat inflammation, P. acne (the bacteria that produces acne), and to prevent recurrence.
What else do I need to do while receiving IPL Acne Clearance treatment?
It is always important to be using a medical-grade skincare line. Dr. Twigg will recommend specific products just for your skin. In addition, she may prescribe medication (oral and/or topical). This is dependent on your skin’s condition.
What will IPL treatments feel like?
The treatment applicator uses a contact cooling system, therefore you will feel a cooling before, during, and after each pulse. The pulse feels very comfortable on the acne clearance setting and you may not feel any discomfort at all. In fact, if you have a painful cyst or breakout, it will likely be less painful after the treatment.
What will my skin look like after the treatment?
Your skin may appear slightly pink, but this dissipates very quickly.
What should I avoid after IPL Acne Clearance treatment?
Avoid any sun exposure or tanning of any kind for at least 14 days. Broad spectrum sunscreen is required for a minimum of 30 days with SPF 30+. I recommend using a mineral-based formula and clothing protection. Any sun exposure causes inflammation. Inflammation causes acne to worsen. Avoidance is needed.
